The Top 5 Monochrome Laser Printers

Monochrome laser printers offer one very significant benefit; they cost much less to operate. The average cost of printing a color page is 8 to 9 times more than black and white. However, monochrome printers also tend to print faster, use less energy, and require less maintenance. These five monochrome laser printers were selected based on a balance of price, performance, and cost.

1. Lexmark E460dn

Designed for workgroups of smaller size, the Lexmark’s E460dn is a mid-range monochrome laser printer. Printing at a respectable speed of 38 pages per minute, it’s priced at $599. Toner cartridges start at $203 with the return program.

You can refill your printers at lowest price ink cartridge refill.

2. Dell 5230dn

Dell built the 5230dn Monochrome Laser Printer for a long-term return on investment. Boasting 45 page-per-minute print speeds, Dell designed this printer for maximum output with minimal maintenance. The retail price is $999.99 with the basic 7000-page cartridge starting at $139.99.

3. Xerox Phaser 4510N

Comparable to Dell’s office workhorse, the Xerox Phaser 4510N prints at a speed of 45 pages per minute. And with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $649, initial costs are lower. Only third parties sell toner cartridges, so prices tend to vary in a range from $189.99 to $219.99.

4. Brother HL-5370DWT

The Brother HL-5370DWT offers moderately fast output at a low price. For small workgroups on a limited budget, this printer can be a competitively priced solution. Coming in at just $299.99, it prints at 32 pages per minute. Toner Cartridges begin at $74.99 for 3000-page capacity refills.

5. Kyocera Mita FS-1350DN

For those seeking the least expensive toner cartridge replacements, the Kyocera Mita FS-1350DN fits the bill. The 7200-page, $83 toner cost compensates for the initial outlay of $761. Kyocera maintains that toner supplies will be the only ongoing replacement as the image drum lasts for hundreds of thousands of pages. However, the print speed (32 ppm) is slower than most comparably priced laser printers.

The Top 5 Color Laser Printers

When occasional color printing may be needed, the costs of printing in color should still be kept in check. Color laser printers require four toner cartridges (1 black and 3 color). Therefore, the operating costs are much higher. The following five color laser printers were selected with a heavy significance placed on keeping ongoing costs low. After that, printing speed, color quality, and initial cost determined which printers made the top five. Note: Each printer has three color cartridges to replace.

1. Dell 5130cdn

The Dell 5130cdn beats all the others on two major factors: speed and toner cost. At an impressive 47 pages per minute, no other color laser printer comes close. The $1549.99 price tag is balanced by the low cost of toner cartridges.

  • Black: $136.99 for 18,000 pages
  • Color: $194.99 for 6,000 pages

2. Dell 3130cn

The Dell 3130cn offers similar speed with lower cost toner cartridges compared to the 5130cdn. However, the price tag is smaller. The price starts at $998.99 with an additional $199.99 for the optional duplexer, which is standard on all other models. Print speeds are 31 ppm and 26 ppm for monochrome and color respectively.

  • Black: $77.99 for 4,000 pages, $138.99 for 9,000 pages
  • Color: $104.99 for 3,000 pages, $252.99 for 9,000 pages

3. HP Color LaserJet Enterprise CP4025dn

With a color-saving set of features and relatively low toner replacement costs, the HP Color LaserJet Enterprise CP4015dn keeps printing costs down. The starting price is $1,299.99. It prints at 35 pages per minute, relatively fast for color laser printers. Photos tend to appear a bit dark, though.

  • Black: $157.99 for 8,500 pages
  • Color: $285.99 for 11,000 pages

4. Lexmark C734dn

A comparably fast, low-cost printer with good quality, the Lexmark C734dn color laser printer is a well-balanced machine. Photo quality is good with the exception of a slight darkness to pictures printed on specialty paper. The print speed comes in at 30 pages per minute, and the price starts at $634.00. The toner prices are reasonably low too.

  • Black: $133.99 for 8,000 pages
  • Color: $211.99 for 6,000 pages

5. Kyocera Mita FS-C5300DN

For offices which produce a high volume of documents with simple color graphics, the Kyocera Mita FS-C5300DN is the answer. Again, Kyocera seeks to reduce total cost of use to the bare minimum with cheap toner cartridges and long-lasting drums. Designed more for business-oriented documents such as graphs and charts, this printer won’t handle detailed pictures as well as other models.

A list price of $1739 makes it practical for larger workgroups only. The print speed is still a respectable 28 pages per minute.

  • Black: $107.00 for 12,000 pages
  • Color: $153.33 for 10,000 pages

  1. Great compilation of some really cool laser printers. On any given day, I’d go for Xerox Phaser 4510N even though it is bit costlier than the rest!

  2. Wow, some of these toners look quite expensive. My printer uses a HP Q6000a toner that I pay about $90 for, although admittedly it only prints about 2500 pages
