  1. Frankly saying skype has never ever let me to opt any alternative. Since most of my pals aren’t there on skype, i have to go with the Google’s service, G talk.. But i like skype, its pretty much faster than all even when using dial up connections, so do with the video chat on skype :)

Yup You are right Manoj. Google is mostly used service. But Skype is the best VOIP service for sure. Reason for me to write this article is to let the Skype and Google users to think beyond them.

    • Siddartha

I Agree with you Robin, but VOIP Buster is one of the Popular and Cheaper VOIP service provider.

  2. I have had skype for a long time. You have provided some great alternatives. Does anyone know of any systems like skype that will work on the palm pre. I wanted to download the skype app for my phone but it is not supported. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

@Anish Yup Skype is Probably the Best VIOP service, but these mentioned services are framed on point of services which are cheap and loads faster.

  3. I’ve used Google Talk in the past for voip calls and was lately introduced to Skype after that. But after since I’ve started using Skype, I havent looked in to other services as I am quite used to Skype now!

    Good list BTW :)

  4. yeah i feel quiet satisfactory with skype set up,well then ill just start trying the other alternatives too…………….

  5. Owning a customization garage its important for me to maintain the best VoIP service I can after all I do run a business selling the best products for your vehicles why would i not have the best of everything.

  6. I like Skype for making landline calling, but for video calling, I started using FaceFlow, which is a good alternative to Skype. It also offers free video conferencing which will be a paid feature on Skype, as it is on ooVoo too. You can check out a video about it on http://www.faceflow.com/skype-alternative
I also like the way Google is evolving with their services, especially because everything is directly on the web. In my opinion, desktop programs will see a decreasing popularity trend compared to web applications.

  7. Big minus for Skype is their Dualphone won´t work with Windows 7. The Dual is the best phone on the market for ordinary telefony too – now it´s going to be redundant.

  8. I personally like skype for it’s ease of use and for the fact most of my friends and colleagues are signed up to it. The problem with smaller/less popular programs like ichat is that not many people are signed up to them, in comparison to programs like skype.

However, knowing how trends go, I would not be surprised, that if all of my contacts moved over to an alternative, so would I.

  9. I’m using Gtalk from time to time, but since all my friends are on Skype, it is ineffective to migrate to another program. I’ve used Voip Buster also – and I don’t recommend it – bad sound quality. I’m paying a little bit more for Skype Out, but it always works like a charm.

  10. another great alternatives:

    mo-call
    vopium
    jaxtr
    vbuzzer

and fully voip the best are:

    voip.ms
    callcentric.com
    callwithus.com

  11. Skype has been OK for me. I’m a Mac user and knowing that Microsoft bought Skype, my fears are: 1) Eventho Skype is free, has very little ads and MS is already talking about spaming free users with VIDEO ads. This will actually make me drift away from Skype like I did from ooVoo. 2) I’m not sure MS will continue to allow Skype on Macs. So IF I move away from Skype I will be faced with losing my contacts (that use Windows). iChat is a very nice alternative. I actually noticed the video and audio are more robust and clear on iChat but… not available for Windows. Yep… I guess we will just wait and see. Thanks for the post BTW. Very nice!

  12. I use skype quite a bit & it works very well, so why would I want to change. Well I use a Macbook (Need I say more about M-soft), I am worried about what will happen in the future, with adverts & support for OSX etc.

  13. LuciTalk-MP with 10-way group video chat and HD point-to-point video, is a great alternative to Skype … try it out for free!

  14. GOOBER MESSENGER! SO FAR IT’S THE BEST VOIP, VIDEO CHAT AND TEXT CHAT CLIENT I’VE SEEN OTHER THAN OOVOO. OOVOO IS GREAT BUT GOOBER OFFERS ENCRYPTED COMMUNICATIONS, NO ADS, VERY LOW MEMORY USE AND CLEAN, SIMPLE INTERFACE. GUARANTEE YOU’LL SWITCH FROM SKYPE IF YOU TRY GOOBER!

  15. hey thanks for providing this here, Yeah all these are i think best Alter of Skype. I am Very Use too of G+ Hangout for Video Talk, thanks for sharing other Alter for that. Gonna try These Soon :)
